This bit me (yes, it bit me) while I was doing the dishes.
Zoe Rasmussen had always loved reading--especially fantasy. But she had no idea that anything like this was possible.
It all started when her grandmother was moving in to a new house in a small, obscure Montana town--actually, to be more accurate, it was a ranch. Instead of helping unpack, though, Zoe went off to explore--taking a copy of The Lord of the Rings with her. It's a long story, but she eventually found a nice, quiet, secluded area by a small creek waterfall.
And then, characters started popping out of the book. Not the actual stars, mind you, but characters that no one had heard of--she only let an Elf and a Hobbit slip out before slamming the book shut.
Zoe had discovered Bocealdor--where characters from books could come to life, if you just opened them. It wasn't long before others discovered Bocealdor--apparently, there were portals that connected to our world in other places than just the secluded ranch. And then, more characters started appearing--not just from books, but from the fictional worlds of movies, TV, and even people's own imaginations. But the canon characters never did show up.
It wasn't long before Bocealdor had a thriving population, and the realm expanded--to include castles, forests, and deserts. The fictional characters were trapped there--unless they chose to return to their worlds and never return--but the people from our world who had "summoned" them were free to come and go as they pleased.
Now, Bocealdor is a thriving realm with any citizens that you can imagine--Elves, Fairies, Talking Animals, Dragons, Jedi...anything that you could imagine.
Opinions, please. I mean, would anyone join a place like this?
