In what humans would call the badlands, there is series of winding canyons that have long been used by the horses as a traditional fighting area. Fights occur for any reason, from territorial claims to pride. Most of the time, both horses come out alive--but that is not always the case.

A fort belonging to the United States Army. It is in a very harsh. dry climate, and the horses here are very well disciplined. Though Spirit may have earned respect from the Colonel, the army still isn't afraid to capture mustangs for their use.

This desert area is mostly uninhabited, but you can't blame anyone--the harsh climate is dreadfully hot during the day and dreadfully cold at night. And always dry. It isn't completely devoid of life, however; several cacti and mesquite trees find enough moisture to survive, along with various desert wildlife.
