A rather large, yet young black colt walked quietly through the forest. Being alone was normal to him but he didn't like it. He had no one to talk to, no one to have fun with. It was just himself. He couldn't remember where he had come from or who his parents were, all he knew was he was alone.
Lightening stopped at a tree and looked through the forest. A cougar's yowl echoed between the trees and his eyes widened in surprise. Being alone in the forest wasn't his smartest idea. He could smell the cougar which meant he was downwind of the predator. Lightening let out a small sigh of releif although there was little comfort. He was still alone.
The Cimarron herd wasn't really his home, so he thought. He just tagged along with them, looking for protection. Who would want an orphan anyway? With a tired sigh, Lightening quietly settled down on a soft moss bed and curled up, trying his best to remember his younger years and where he had come from but to no avail.

a n d [h i d e] t he [t r u t h] i n s i d e Pale hooves carried a golden mare through the woods. Filtering through the leaves, sunlight created a dappled effect on her palomino pelt. Her ears perked as she caught the scent of a young foal, and she headed towards his direction.
He was young, his pelt black in hue. The colt lay curled up on a bed of moss. Esperanza vaguely recognized the colt; he had been living with the herd for quite a while, but he hadn't been born here. The air was tinted faintly with a cougar's scent, and the mare was concerned for the young foal. She nickered softly, hoping to get his attention.

OOC: 10 points to someone who gets why I qoute'd Searching far and wide.
A red mustang adventured into the woods of the Cimarron herd. "Searching far and wide" Simba was going into every nook and rock to see what life was held there. He found nothing. Disappointed he didn't notice the presence of others until he heard a nicker. He looked around to find the source of the sound and met disappointment again. The source of the sound wasn't in his sight. So he walked farther into the forest till he came up the Esperanza. "Hey Esperanza, what brings you to the forest?" he whispered.

Ears pricked to a soft nicker coming near by directed to him. The nicker sounded a memory in his head: his mother, a beautiful black mare with a white star on her forehead, nickering to him. It was the first memory he had of his mother and could now remember what she looked like. Lightening raised his head in surprise and excitement, hoping to see his mother standing there but instead all he could see was an elder palomino standing near by. He knew of her but no names came to mind.
Lightening felt disappointment run through him. He didn’t know what to do. She didn’t seem like she would hurt him but a sound broke his thoughts: hoof beats. A red stallion came up beside the elder and spoke to her but Lightening could not hear what he said. Carefully and cautiously, Lightening stood up, watching the two from the distance. He wasn’t but a year old…too young to figure out friend from foe. He couldn’t tell if the red stallion was friend but he knew the palomino was of the Cimarron: a good mustang, so if she was not threatened by the stallion, maybe he was good. Lightening could make himself feel easy enough to walk over to them.

s o m e o n e [e l s e] w i l l Esperanza looked over her withers as a chestnut-red stallion walked up to her. "What brings you to the forest?" he asked in a soft whisper. The golden mare nodded at the colt, who was now standing up. Hesitance was visible in his young eyes. The palomino nickered again, breathing in the colt's scent. He had been around their herd long enough to pick up their distinct aroma. "It's ok," she said softly.

Interested on what Esperanza was looking at Simba turned his head to the side. Noticing the young colt's confusion he whispered to him "Ey! No need to be afraid of me. I'm part of the Cimarron herd." Hopefully he didn't grab the cougar's attention when he spoke at that volume. To show that he was friendly, Simba slowly approached the colt...

Lightening shifted from one hoof to the other, nervously. Their voices held no threat but he was still unsure. Then the stallion began to approach him.
Like a foal drawn to his mother, Lightening made a dash for Esperanza, veering a wide turn away from the stallion. He slide to a stop by her side, keeping her between him and the stallion. Lightening peered cautiously at the stallion, still unsure about him.

i t ' s a r o u n d Startled, the colt bolted to Esperanza's side. She stared at the chestnut stallion, warning and concern in her brown eyes. The palomino mare bent down to nuzzle the colt, brushing her velvety muzzle against his head. "It's alright," she whispered in a low nicker.

Simba looked back at Esperanza's face and shrugged. "I guess thats what happens when I'm gone for a year." he said and slowly walked back over to Esperanza. Not wanting to scare the colt, he didn't say anything to him. He looked around making sure that the cougar wasn't there. Satisfied, he looked back to Espie. "So how have you been lately?"

Lightening felt comforted by Esperanza and nuzzled against her side. Her voice was soothing and very motherly, something he knew only vaguely. The black colt kept a cautious eye on the red stallion as he moved closer to Esperanza. With curiosity, he whispered a question to Esperanza.
"Is he nice?"
It was a simple question that any youngster would ask about a stranger and filled with uneasiness but at the same time curiosity.

i n t o [m y] w o r l d The only visible signs that Esperanza had herd Simba was her ears twitching to the sound of the voice. She continued to caress the young colt, playing gently with his short mane.
"Is he nice?"
"Yes, he is," The palomino answered in a low nicker. She looked at the chestnut and nodded subtly, hoping that he wouldn't startle the colt this time.

Seeing Esperanza's nod he turned around to the colt. Now don't mess up this time Simba. he ordered himself. He took a deep breath in and out. "Hello, my names Simba. Whats yours?" he asked the young colt.

Lightening "Run With Me & Feel the Power"
Lightening's ears pricked to the stallion's words. Simba... Lightening c.ocked his head in curiosity, the fear in his eyes rapidly decreasing.
"Simba..."
He repeated Simba's name pawed the ground playfully, stepping from behind Esperanza to face Simba.
"Who am I? I make it thunder and bring down the rains. I am Lightening!"
Lightening reared, letting out a playful challenging whinny. He pawed the air, tossing his black head in the cool summer breeze. Dropping to his hooves, Lightening nickered to Simba in acceptance. The thought of the cougar passed his mind but no sense of the cat was near, besides he was with two adults. Who could harm him?......

t h a t t i m e [f o r] m e [t o] f a c e The golden-coated mare smiled at Lightening's introduction; the colt had seemed to forget his fear for the moment and was rearing playfully. She glanced at Simba again, glad that everything was alright.
A faint, but still evident, whiff of cougar-scent caused her ears to perk up in concern. It seemed closer now, but it was hard to tell in the barely visible breeze. Esperanza blinked at the stallion, her brown eyes slightly worried.

"Well Hello Lightning." he greeted the young colt. He looked around to Esperanza, sensing her worry. He sniffed at the air lightly, smelling it close by. "Maybe we should go play somewhere else." he said playfully to Lightning.
