Hello all, this is a story I'm working on, though it doesn't have a title as of yet. It is set in a parallel time period with that of the Holy Roman Empire, primarily 1100-1400 A.D. However, it will not span that long (obviously, as, to be honest, I don't want to keep the character alive for 300 odd years) and may take people and events from the happenings in that time period. Anywho, enjoy if you can, and make sure to leave a comment if you liked it or thought it could improve, as I like feedback

A man watched over a resting village from his small, fortified manor, deep in thought of the current state of affairs. A soft breeze suddenly picked up, causing the man to give a small shiver. He gave a small sigh and spoke aloud.
"If only I was a wisp of wind, uncaring of the troubles of this world, unable to harm anyone, unable to be harmed. Able to travel wherever I pleased, and whenever, unheeding of the laws and borders of men..."
With another small sigh he turned around and headed towards his bed to rest for the night, like those in the village.
Morning came quickly, thanks to the catalyst of sleep. The small manor was bustling with activity by the time the man woke up. Sounds downstairs indicated that breakfast was being prepared, and the smell of cooking beef made him hasten to make his way down.
He quickly pulled on a black tunic over his tangled mass of mahogany hair and some black pants. Within another minute he had retrieved and strapped his sword and scabbard onto his belt. After doing this he made his way downstairs, bumping into hurrying men and women as he went due to the small hallways.
He just got through the door to the outside when a voice called to him.
"Milord!"
Hearing the familiar voice, he turned to see where the speaker was. As it turned out, before he could locate the voice, a man popped up beside him.
"Gerhard! How many times do I have to tell you to call me Henry, other than when we have guests? I'm not the Emperor or one of those many jackals that call themselves princes you know." Henry said to the other man, with a less rebuking than friendly tone.
